Sometimes, something weird happens when you turn your creative passion into your business: you stop enjoying it as much.

You focus less on doing it for fun and more on how much money you are or are not making.

The business you initially started because you wanted creative freedom and fulfillment sometimes ends up holding you, your mind and your time prisoner. Before you know it, you’re always working or thinking about your work, your clients, your todo list, and your business growth. Fun, passion, rest, and hobbies become a thing of the past.

If this sounds familiar, today's brand new podcast episode has your name allll over it.

This episode was inspired by a breathwork class I recently attended. As the instructor guided us through a visualization, she told us to think back to who we were as children, what we enjoyed doing the most and what we wanted the most out of life.

And as I thought of young Nesha - the girl who dreamed of being a writer or an artist, who loved photography, who used to stay up ’til 3am on school nights because she was completely lost in a book - I realized I had let all of those passions and hobbies go. And I realized there was a space in my soul where they once were, a space I had been trying to fill by chasing more passion from within my business.

In this class, I realized the passion I was seeking didn’t lie in my business. What my soul really craved was hobbies, fun and being creative for creativity’s sake and not for the sake of profit.

So that’s what I did last month! I read a fiction novel (my first in over six months), I've taken time every week to explore London and indulge in some amateur photography (there maaaay be a passion project coming out of it), I've attended a self-love class, and overall I've felt more creatively fulfilled and rested. I’ve had fun.

Of course, I haven't disregarded my business responsibilities or gotten lazy. I've still worked hard for my business. I've simply made sure to simultaneously not disregard my deep need for fun, creativity and passion projects.

One of my favourite quotes (by Dolly Parton) is “don't get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.”

Making a life starts with making regular time for the things - the hobbies, passions, people, moments - that bring you joy.
